This carabiner is in the shape of a gourd or calabash. Round to top, narrow to bottom and round to middle. The shape is all in that waist. It reads as if it will actually do something, rather than a loop. The total length is about 4.6 cm and the total width is about 2.2 cm with one spring gate on the side. Press to open and snap to close.
The material used is aluminum alloy. Anodized finish available in eight colours – red, orange, blue, green, purple, black, gold and silver. Body is light weight. Good hand feel. Blank and no new tooling
Production stock gourd mold. No shape tooling fee. New tooling is not required if the change is in colour only, or in logo process/anodize finish. This ensures low sampling cost and quick sampling.
Large area logos
The flat part of the logo between the two lobes is the ideal place for silk screen. Large enough to display a multi-color and/or gradient logo (as desired). Silk screen at this size is difficult to fine and detail. Minimize logo elements to 0.5 mm or more. We make a scale layout for printing out first. Text or a simple mark can be placed on by laser, as opposed to silk screen engraving. Laser is more suitable for very fine text. Absolutely no color in the mark – clean and permanent! Ideal for simplicity in logo uses.
Color splits on large orders
MIXED COLOR RUNS are common. We recommend a split according to historical sellthrough figures of comparable products. You adjust. Quantities are confirmed before production per colour. The minimum per colour on a mixed run is not set but is determined by a practical minimum based on the batch size. At inquiry, confirm this.
Empaque
Individual units in an OPP bag (default). Bulk in a polybag separated by colour. Box or blister card for display in retail outlets is available. The same artwork approval process is used for the header card with barcode and brand artwork as the carabiner.

Q1: The gourd shape is about the size of the apples. Does it just serve as decoration?
The gourd shape is not only decorative but functional too. The constricted waist between the two rounded parts ensures a better grip. When picking up or clipping, fingers automatically go to the waist. The longer lower lobe has a spring gate. Function is similar to a normal clip. Just makes it look and feel more interesting and easy to handle.
Q2: Is the same material as a normal D type carabiner?
Same base metal: Aluminum alloy, Anodized. The properties are the same for everyday carry use. Weight is comparable or slightly lighter (depending on profile). Not a load-bearing climbing clip. If load capacity is needed, it is a different product category.
Q3: What is the size of the spring gate opening? Will a normal key ring pass through?
The opening for the gate is designed to accommodate a typical key ring. A ring of 5mm size fits through easily. Press the opening of the gate against the gate spring. Key rings, cord loops and small clips all slip into place without the need for tools. If you are using a large diameter ring/hook, please provide the spec, and we will test fit before producing sample.
Q4: Can the gourd shape be bigger or smaller?
The present mould makes 4.6cm x 2.2cm size. New tooling is required for a different size. The new dimensions affect the tooling cost and lead time. If the order quantity is large enough to warrant the investment, this is possible. The practical size is the current size for normal order quantities.
Q5: Will the silk screen logo wear out? Will it scratch off?
The quality of the silk screen printing on anodized surface is resistant to normal use. Much more durable than an ink stamp, but not as permanent as laser engraving. The print is not adversely affected by a daily key chain/bag strap. Laser engraving is the better choice if there will be a lot of mechanical rubbing against rough surfaces.
Q6: What is the colour of the "gold"? Could it be as close to real gold as it gets?
The gold colour is a warm yellow gold anodize. It looks like gold when viewed at normal viewing distance. Not an electroplate of metal. It is an anodized process, giving an aluminium part a warm, matte coloration, and not reflective like plated gold. Very close to satin gold or brushed gold. When ordering a specific shade, ask a physical swatch sample first to make sure it is the right one.
